MONROE -- Sister Mary Robert Gilloe, a retired Catholic school
teacher, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in the IHM Health Care Center in Monroe. She was 95.
Sister Mary Robert, who was born Anna Marie, grew up in Metro Detroit and
graduated from St. Mary Academy in Monroe in 1922. She became a member of the Sisters,
Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Monroe in 1923 taking the religious name of
Sister Mary Robert.
Sister Mary Robert's teaching career spanned 52 years. She taught elementary
through high school grades in numerous parishes. Among the schools she taught at were St.
Stephen in Port Huron and St. Vincent and St. Mary of Redford in Detroit.
She served in various capacities at Marygrove College in Detroit until her
retirement to the Motherhouse in 1988. She is remembered as a gentle person, who for many
years cared for the sick at St. Mary Health Care Center.
Survivors include her sister, Sister Loretta Gilloe, IHM of Monroe and
several nieces and nephews.
