Sister Celine

GENROE, SISTER AILEEN (CELINE) Monroe, MI Sister Aileen Genroe died on Monday, April 30, 2001 at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe, Michigan at the age of 93. One of two girls, of William and Emma (Cronin) Genroe, she was born January 28, 1908 and given the name Aileen. She attended Our Lady of Help Elementary School and Annunciation High School in Detroit. Sister Aileen became a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Monroe in 1926, taking the religious name of Sister Celine. Sister Aileen earned a bachelor s degree in 1941 from Marygrove College in Detroit and a master s degree in 1952 from Wayne State University in Detroit. Her career as an educator spanned 48 years teaching at various schools including St. John, Monroe, St. John, Benton Harbor, St. Stephen, Port Huron, St. Mary, Mt Morris, St. Michael and St. Matthew, Flint, Our Lady of Lake Huron, Harbor Beach, St. Vincent de Paul, Pontiac and St. Gregory, Holy Rosary, Blessed Sacrament, St. Gregory and St. Mary of Redford in Detroit.
